Study Questions for Sunday November 19th, 2023

Each week, Pastor Melissa will publish a list of study questions that pertain to next week’s sermon.  You can use these questions in your own study, or if you prefer, there is an Adult Sunday School class that meets in the Fellowship Hall every Sunday at 9:15 to review these questions.

Reflection Question: “Peace in the Heart of Christmas” Luke 2: 8-14, Colossians 1:19-22

  1. When does your Christmas tree go up? Who trims it? How? What other traditions do you have?
  2. How would you define hope in your own words? How is Jesus’ birth the fulfillment of long-awaited hope?
  3. How does the shepherds’ experience with the angels compare to that of Zechariah (1:8-9) and Mary (1:26-27)?
  4. God appeared to Zechariah, Mary, and the shepherds when they were just doing their jobs, being themselves. What does that imply about what it means to be “spiritual”? How has God spoken to you in the ordinary flow of life?
  5. Of all the people the angels could have visited, why did God send them to the shepherds? How does that relate to Mary’s song (1:46-55)?
  6. Other people didn’t hear the angels. Why? How can you be open to God’s serendipity in your life?
  7. Why is it so hard to wait on God to move in our lives?
  8. How has God Been faithful in your life? How does that strengthen your trust in Him?
