Growing Families in Christ

How to Join the Family

Are you looking for a church home?

Guest are always welcome to worship and often find this to be a place where they desire deeper relationship and commitment.   On the Second Sunday of each month the Pastor holds a FIRST CONNECTION gathering for those interested in knowing more about the church and its beliefs.   Every month a different topic is highlighted and it is helpful to attend more than once in order to build friendships with other newcomers and discover potential steps to take in your faith development.

Joining by Transfer from Another United Methodist Church

You may transfer your membership from another United Methodist Church.  Please request a new member form from the Administrative Assistant in the church office so that we can help with details of your transfer.

Joining by Vow from Another Denomination

Since you have been baptized into the Christian faith in other denomination, it is not necessary for you to be re-baptized. We accept your baptism and celebrate with you that part of your spiritual journey. We are happy to receive you into the fellowship of First United Methodist Church.

You will be asked this question: “Will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church and uphold it with your prayers, your presence, your gifts and your service?”

The church staff can help with details of notifying your former church about your transfer.

Profession of Faith

For a young person or an adult, who has been baptized but never officially joined a church, you may join by professing your faith. When you join you will be asked “Do you affirm your faith in Christ? Do you promise to serve Him as your Lord in union with the church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, all nations and all races? Will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church and uphold it with your prayers, your presence, your gifts and your service?

Baptism and Profession of Faith

A person begins the Christian life through baptism, which is the symbol of God’s grace through Jesus Christ. If you have not professed your faith in Jesus or received baptism you need to visit with the pastor.   Baptism is a sacred gift and worthy of preparation for receiving.  One may choose to be baptized at any time, however, in our faith tradition once a person is baptized it is an eternal covenant that doesn't need to be duplicated.   What God has already done can not be undone.   There are times of course when it is appropriate for us to 'remember and renew' our baptisms because we need to re-affirm our faith.  Note the questions in the paragraph above that you will be asked when receiving Baptism or Professing Faith.

Please contact the church office so that we can get you the new member packet and information form.

Then the pastor can prepare and set a date for you to come and make the commitment vows to be a part of this congregation.

It is our custom to have folks come to the front of the Sanctuary as we sing of the Hymn of Commitment.
